Review: Naked Bodycare

My first try of Naked Bodycare was after winning a giveaway over at Sugarpuffish. I was kindly sent a bottle of Orange Blossom bodywash - it is truly delicious.

If you're not familiar with Naked products they are vegan friendly, don't believe in testing on animals and contain 97% natural ingredients. I know, I know. 97% isn't 100% natural but Naked put that 3% down to preservatives and emulsifiers. So I've had a little look through the ingredients to see exactly what I'm putting on my and my family's bodies. Click on an ingredient to see the source of my information, or Google them yourself!

Aqua - water
Cocamidopropyl betaine - surfuctant, basically it's what does the cleaning and lathering. Naturally derived but synthetically produced and has been linked to skin, eye and lung irritation.
Sodium lauroyl sarcosinate - another synthetic surfuctant which can break down into carcinogens.
Sodium cocoamphoacetate - a natural surfuctant derived from coconut. Safe even at levels of 28%
Coco glucoside - another natural surfuctant with a very low chance of causing irritability.
Glyceryl oleate - a naturally derived emulsifier.
Chamomilla recutita extract, Citrus aurantium amara (Neroli) oil & Aloe barbadensis extract - plant extracts (chamomile, bitter orange and aloe vera)
Sodium hydroxymethylglycinate - a formaldehyde releasing preservative. Yes, you read that right, formaldehyde. It has been tested extensively on animals, but Naked does operate a fixed cut off policy dating from 2000.+
Citric acid - naturally derived preservative
Glycerin - can be naturally derived or synthetic. It's there to help moisturise the top layer of skin.
Potassium sorbate & Sodium benzoate- two more synthetic preservatives

As much as I like this body wash (and the shampoo and conditioner I bought) I don't think I'll be buying it again as there are totally natural products available out there. *sob*

  1. As @Sugarpuffish has just pointed out to me on twitter there aren't really any 100% natural shower gels out there - so maybe I'll stick with Naked a bit longer :)
